The Full Moon

Tonight, January 9, 2012, is the full moon.

The moon has long been a source for folklore and speculation, especially on nights where the moon is full. From turning men into wolfs to influencing an increase in criminal activity the moon has been blamed for a lot of out of the ordinary occurrences and behaviors. Does the phases of the moon influence us or is it little more than a rocky body orbiting the planet?

The Photographic Atlas of the Moon is a daily photographic guide to observing the features of the Moon through a 40cm telescope and high-resolution, low-speed film. Whole Moon images are provided for each day of the 29-day lunar cycle, with labelled features and descriptive text.
